Sean + Julie // Wedding // The Wooster Inn

On a chilly fall evening, Sean & Julie began their lives together, and combined two families into one. The wedding was sweet, the family was incredible, and the raw emotions throughout the day made everything so perfect. Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Hartzler!

Leave your favorite adventure spots below! 🌲 // They say to marry someone who is home and an adventure all at once. Besides the obviously point of finding someone who loves you, treats you with respect, cares for you, fosters your hopes and dreams, and everything else that creates a successful marriage... I think this is the best marriage advice. Wherever you are feels like a safe haven, and when you look at them, it feels like the biggest hill of a rollercoaster - ready to fly. Marry someone who is home and an adventure all once.
One of my very favorites are between the stars of the show and the parents. This quiet moment, this silent look, are so beautiful. I can't imagine what it's like to watch your child marry the love of their life, but I would guess that it's the most special thing in the world. Melissa and her mom gave me all the feelings that morning in Pennsylvania. (For the record, I will ALWAYS cry when you hug your family at your wedding. Literally every time.)
🌲🌲🌲I've been trying to figure out what home is. I've called a number of different places "home". 🌲🌲🌲
.
Home is Ohio with my mom and my dad and my friends. It's sitting at the bar for breakfast at Mrs. J's and eating to many hashbrowns and drinking way too much coffee. It's a church with people who love me and pray for me. It's friends that treat my home like their home. It's neighbors who gave me bandaids when I crashed my bike and then gave hugs when I got married. It's my sisters and I still fighting over the bathroom sinks and our growing families and laughing around the Christmas tree. Orrville, Ohio will always be my first and longest and most treasured home. Home is Ohio.
.
Home is Athens. The place I owe most of my growth to. The place where I fell apart and fell together and fell in love. The place where I can trace every street. It's the natty lights and brick streets and the hocking river and the Appalachian foothills. It's the friends who I drank too much and danced too carefreely and laughed so loudly with. It's the place that taught me to love my craft, and to critique myself. It made me a better journalist, a better writer, a better photographer, a better designer, and a better person. It's the place where I hammocked freely in the trees and drank beer and coffee and loved. Athens is home.
.
Home is wherever my family is. Virginia Beach or Rapid City or Orrville or Wooster or Lima or Houston.
.
At one point, Honduras was home. That place still carries a part of my heart. That place was home for a short while.
.
Home is here, in South Dakota. It's friends you barely know loving you and celebrating birthdays with you. It's the best friends/neighbors that help fix your car. It's an old man with a dog who taught me the basics of ice fishing today in the woods. It's the woman who helped me pick out the perfect berry wine on a snowy day. It's the drives through the pines with the snow and the sun hitting the granite spires just right. South Dakota - that's my home, too.
.
Home is wherever you want it to be. Wherever your heart is. Wherever you feel at peace. Home is fluid and it's locations are endless. Home is, truly, where the heart is.
My wish for you (me) in 2019 is that you learn to be your own muse.
.
Dark circles under your eyes. Acne on your cheeks. Unbridled hair. Undone brows. Old t-shirts. An apartment filled with the sounds of a clicking shutter, swinging porch curtains, and Sleeping At Last: The Spring playing on Spotify.
.
I hope you learn how to love yourself: Your untamed and adventurous self. Your mental health self. Your bursting-with-creativity self. Your "I'm trying to figure out this whole "marriage" thing" self. Your overjoyed self. Your scarred body self. Your quiet - and your much too loud - self. Your anxious and panic attack- ridden self. Your bruises and scrapes from hiking, self. Your content self. Your simply happy, self.
.
I hope you learn to love you. Just you, just as you are. // Cheers to the New Year.
In 2018, I had surgery for a super rare breast tumor, I got married to my best friend, I moved 1500 miles away, I started business in a new state, I jumped off a cliff into a river, I used 4wd for the first time in ages in a national park, I started living alone, I marked off 8 new states on my map, I drank tequila in Las Vegas, I stared at the Milky Way with a naked eye during a meteor shower in Wyoming, I drove up the side of a mountain, I froze my butt off at Lake Erie with Jake and @eastlyn_ + @joshua.lee_ for the most beautiful engagement photos, I had a severe panic attack in Grand Central Station in NYC on my honeymoon, I ate my weight in empanadas in Brooklyn and drank cocktails in Midtown, I drove six hours to Denver in the middle of the night just to catch a flight to the ocean (but got upgraded to first class, so it wasn’t that bad), I spent my first Christmas away from home and my family, I was at the airport more often than I wasn’t, and I sent my husband to trainings twice, and now off to a deployment for six months. 2018 has been a really wild ride and I wouldn’t change it for the world. I am so grateful for this year. It wasn’t easy, but I am stronger for it. Here’s to 2019 and more adventures - adventurous love, adventurous praying, adventurous travel, and adventurous living. Cheers, friends.
